It’s no secret. I am not organized and I hate picking up my mess. I’m not proud of it, and God is working on me slowly. My idea of a clean room is — pick up the big pieces and shove the little things in a drawer or closet. Now, depending on what your personality is, you can completely relate or I made your heart palpatate.
Consider Jehu in chapter 10. He was so zealous to destroy Baal worship. He conceived of an elaborate plan to kill all of the priests and make sure that not one of them survived. He tore down temples, burned sacred stones, and wiped Baal off the map in Israel. He cleaned up all of the big pieces in the name of the Lord, but fell short of being a GREAT king because of a couple of statues. The Lord was so pleased He blessed Jehu by promising him four generations as king of Israel. But the Bible repeats two clauses. In the NIV, one starts with “HOWEVER” and the other starts with “YET.” Jehu fell short of leading Israel to the greatness God had planned by not taking care of the little things.
How do we avoid making the same mistakes as Jehu? It’s easy to see those glaring imperfections and the outward sin in our lives. We pray that God gives us strength during those big storms as easily as eating or breathing. But what about the little things? What are the discreet areas of sin in your life that are harder to get rid of or seem less important? Pray that God will show you what the little things are in your life that keep you from the greatness He has planned for you.
